I bet you haven’t seen this coming
Watch this video first before reading on:
I'm in a sort of 'forced vacation', away from 'office' ... home at my parents ... after a tiny foot surgery ... thing. Well ... as I had some time with less work, I read a book [the Romanian translation] of The Gurus, the Young Man, and Elder Paisios and I really think you need to read this one. It's outstanding.
I hope I've done a bit for your coding needs in the past years and ... if I were to do something for your soul ... asking you to read this book is the only thing I can think of right now. Call me crazy but there are tough times of Apostasy ... I'd say we don't have a long way to go, and such books might help you. The idea of sharing such thing on this topic so different from what I talk about recently came from the video below. It's a bit melodramatic but ... WHAT IF?
The Gurus, the Young Man, and Elder Paisios
The book is a quick read ...I have focusing issues and it's hard to read a book at once [thanks to the restless mind-wondering-insanely syndrome I suffer from :)] but this book ... captured me for several hours and I read it like no other. What makes this book different from many other Orthodox books is that it's both straightforward and answers clearly a lot of todays questions with real modern experience examples. Yes, miracles of earlier centuries Saints are amazing and encouraging but, reading modern experiences, strenghtens you a lot more proving that it's not all gone along with the belief and love in the world.
If you wonder how can a down to Earth coder believes in the 'Chrtisian nonsense' ... let me tell you something. Coders are most entitled to believe as they know what it takes to create code and complex algorythms/systems and, combining this with the staggering complexity, interaction and interdependence of life, they know there's something up above ... not a field of energy, but a Concious Being: God. From understanding that life is so much more than hazard to believing is a small step ... choosing what to believe in is a greater challange.
PS: If you don't like the book ... I'll relieve you of it ... for free!
PPS: Thou Shall Not Judge! If you don't believe ... read the book, then judge ;) For those embracing the New Age concepts of no good / evil ... just experiences ... read this: St. Ignatios Brianchaninov's letter. St. actually means Saint. I know Catholics [click the random links] don't know what Saints mean anymore from the Great Schism but the Orthodox have so many [in Romania we have over 100 (local) Saints while Catholics have just 1] ... even these days [even in my country]. This very book I recommend is about a Saint.

I respect your beliefs and admire that you are so willing to share it with others. Good for you.
However, I have a hard time believing in a God that would burn people forever because they were born in Iran or were born anywhere but Isreal before Christ. God can’t be just and damn those who were ignorant through no mistake of their own.
If you believe that then you believe that God has predestined all of us for salvation or damnation which means it doesn’t really matter what we do and life is pointless.
I’ll send you a link if I find an English translation.
It matters what we do in life. Consider life a short test with an eternal result ;)
There’s a quote from a movie and it says: “Eternity is a very long time!”.
Yeah! Found it. Before, I used to think the same as you. I considered all good people should go to Heaven.
Read this slice of St. Ignatios Brianchaninov’s letter and a forum.
Enjoy a good read!
Hi, well I’m Romanian too and I live in the Moldavian part of Romania. This place is full of churches and monasteries.
There is a priest at the Negru Vodă monastery called Iustin (Justin). He also is like a saint, a holly man who walks this earth. Maybe you can visit these places, you can crash at my place in Targu-Neamt.
PS: Are you Romanian by any chance?
I’ve just visited Prislop a week ago and I’ll probably go to Petru Voda too … somewhere in the near future.
I’ve signed the anitRFID petition ;)
PS: Cred ca sunt si Roman.
